Okay, so let's face it. Every once and a while, you get a member that is just plain annoying. They don't break the rules, but they just rub you and the members the wrong way. They are quickly driving down the morale on your forum. What do you do?

As terrible as it might be...I just complain about them to my husband or my best friend, and then ignore them in the site (but usually still roleplay or talk with them) unless they start breaking the rules. It sucks because it's your forum and you don't want annoying people on there but you can't just block someone for being annoying because people you want coming to your site might see that you blocked someone and not see why and decide not to join because of that. Personally I'd rather deal with them being annoying then losing out on members for blocking them.

Oh I've had this a LOT on my forums. And they always happen to want to RP in EVERY thread I partake in. This one girl couldn't separate reality from fiction and fell in love with my character, who was a guy, and she happened to have a hacker for a friend so she tracked me down... that was freaky.
Any road - someone who is annoying but not going against any rules... there really isn't much to do. On my forums when something like that happens I try to ignore them and since I KNOW I wont be fair when it comes to them if someone complains or whatever so I let my husband handle it. He is my co-admin with all the same powers and tends to get less emotionally involved in the on-goings.

Yeah, I do agree. Luckily, I didn't encountered it as a admin, but as member and moderator on some sites, I encountered some of them. The only thing that's reasonably possible is to ignore them. Plus other potential members come to the site and see that, they think it wouldn't be a reasonable excuse to block someone and might not want to join. Unless, they start breaking the rules, I'll fairly resolve it based on the rule they broke not on their annoyance.

I tend to agree with all of you. You want to set the example for your forum that people are not going to be targeted. However, lets add a new element. This annoying member still isn't breaking any rules, but they are disrupting the atmosphere of your board, and you know it is costing you new members, and that existing members are actually leaving because of this one person. What do you do then?

Then you have a reason to at least warn them. Tell them they need to calm down/stop doing what they are doing because you are losing new and old members because of their actions. Also if they keep it up then you will be able to ban them without problem. My last comment was if they were only really bothering just you and a few others not everybody.

Since I run an RPG forum when this comes up people simply stop RPing in a thread they show up in or don't respond to threads they start. If you ignore them eventually they'll leave. But that can be hard to do.

I simply try to ignore them. Unless it gets too bad, then I do a warning and a ban.. but that's just me.

If a member is acting as said in one or more of my forums,I would also ignore them.Or, I would inform them of there action's in case they didn't notice. But, if they did notice what they were doing, and did it on purpose I would ban em. I had a girl that almost got my site closed. I had to re:name it, re:theme it, re everything!. But she is a different story. I would just say ignore them. And if they do it even more, then tell them about there action's and if they reply I "know" then ban them.

Those members most likely just want attention. Well, what do I do? I give them the simplest solution, simply pay extra attention to them, and talk to them. Welcome them to join in and don't be afraid to be integrated with us. I've successfully persuaded two of them to be not irritating.
