Design (overall): Your design overall is a good design. I'm able to see the text on your forum against your background, which is great, as well as most of your links. I'm left wanting a little something more, though, mostly in the area of graphics.
Graphics: I'm noticing a bit of a lack here, with just your banner being custom made. A good resource if you need graphics made for you is Proboard's design section at support.proboards.com . Your banner is nice, however it's a bit small for my tastes. I would add, at the very least, some custom on/off icons to spruce up the main boards a bit. If possible, I would also add custom menu buttons.
Colors: As I said in my intro, your colors allow me to view the board without any great difficulty, which is a plus. However, your colors are very dark; so the contrast of the extreme dark against the brightness of the white text, while easy to read, strains on the eyes. I would pick a lighter background color and pick one more color to highlight within the white text.
Coding: I would implement the following (can be found in Proboard's support coding section).
- Forum Resize code (your board is a bit wide, a lot of blank space)
- Category Splitter (you have a lot of boards, so a break will help)
- Your Javascript notice at the bottom should be between <noscript> </noscript> tags, so it will only show up for people who do not have javascript enabled.
- Toss a couple <br /> tags between your table and shoutbox to make a space between the two.
- Move "Hey X" or Remove "Hey X". Beside the banner it stretches the welcome table.
- Remove <<Home>, etc.
If you can fill up the empty space in your info center, that would be great.
Boards: You have a lot of boards on your main page. If there is any way to consolidate some of them, I would. Also, boards that are "under construction" or "coming soon" really don't need to be displayed on the main page; hide them while they are being made. Same goes for a staff board; members don't really need to see that a staff board exists. (Your admin panel >> modify board >> hide board >> yes).
The welcome board should really be the first board you see, with the exception of rules and annoucements. In fact, I don't see either of those two things. Rules are absolutely essential for a forum, and it should be overstated on the main page where the members can find them. It should be convenient for them to find, but it should be the first thing that they do.
Finally, I would make it clear who staff members are, and how they can be contacted.
If you have any questions about the rate, please don't hesitate to ask.
