Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I change my username?
A: No, but you can change your display name, which is the name everyone else sees. Click the "profile" button at the top of the page, then Modify Profile. In the top section "Account Information", there is a field giving you the option to change your screename. Remember when you log in, however, you must always use the handle you signed up with.
Q: What is karma and how do I use it?
A: Karma is the rating system used by Proboards. It can be used to rate your fellow members. If you wish to praise a member, press the "exalt" button displayed under their information (where their username and icon is displayed). If you wish to smite a member, press the "smite" button. Karma points are not used for anything else.
Q: What is a signature and how do I make one?
A: A signature is something that will appear at the bottom of every post you make. Some members choose to display pictures, some quotes, some links to other websites. When you modify your user profile (Profile>modify profile) there is a field available to change your signature. Pictures should be a reasonable size, and will be adjusted if they are too big. The overall sig size must be no larger than 500x250.
Q: What is an avatar and how do I get one?
A: An avatar is a picture displayed under a member's username to represent them. Click the "Profile" button at the top of the page (underneath the banner). Then click "Modify Profile". It will take you to a screen where you can edit all of your information. Underneath the "Personal Information" header there will be a section where it says "Avatar". Click on the drop down menu of avatar choices. Click on one, (you will not be able to preview it first) and press "Modify Profile" at the bottom of the page. This should modify your avatar.
If you want to use a custom avatar, follow the same process, but instead of choosing one from the drop-down menu, paste the URL of the image that you want to use in the "Avatar URL" box. Icons cannot be bigger than 100X100.
Q: How do I post pictures?
A: You must upload them to your own server first. Photobucket is the most reliable. Once your picture is uploaded, you must post the URL in [img][/img] tags.
Q: Can I be a moderator?
A: Moderators are chosen at the disgression of the main admin. If you ask, chances are you will not be asked.
Q: Can I be an affiliate?
A: Of course! The best way to spread info about your site is to affiliate with other sites. There will be an 88x31 banner available for you to link to us, and anyone interested in being an affiliate can PM me your 88x31 banner or post it in the affiliates/advertising board.
Q: How do I post a poll?
A: Once you are in the board you would like to post the poll in, instead of clicking "New Thread", choose "New Poll". You can also add a poll to an existing thread by clicking the "add poll" button at the top of the thread. Please don't add a poll to a thread that you did not start.
Q: What is the deal with the stars below my username?
A: The number and type of stars change with status on the board. The more you post, the more stars appear. The colored stars are reserved for admins and mods.
Q:What is a PM?
A: A PM is a private message that you send directly to another board member, and it can only be viewed by them. To PM somebody, click on their username anywhere on the board. You will be taken to their profile page. If you scroll down, you will come to a box where it says "Send this member a private message". Click on that, and it will take you to a screen where you can type out a message.
Q: I've recieved a strange PM that seems to have come out of nowhere. What's going on?
A: We have a mass PM feature that we use to send out reminders about board rules or changes to the boards. Any mass PM will generally be addressed to "Admin Resource Member". All other PMs from the administrator will be addressed to you specifically.
Q: Do you send out any automated PMs?
A: There is an automated PM sent to you upon registration; as you can probably imagine, it would be too confusing to try and send an individual PM to every member who joins the board. No other PMs will be automated though, and responses to questions will always be hand written!
